Each year in South Africa, 9 August is designated as National Women’s Day, and the contribution made by women in all aspects of life and society is celebrated throughout the month. During this period, the courage and tenacity of all those brave and committed women who fought for women’s liberation back in 1956 is recognised and honoured. These women created a legacy that today continues to inspire political strength, female solidarity and inner fortitude in new generations of women.
This year, as part of the country’s National Women’s Day celebrations, the Women’s Information Network is presenting 1,000 Global Women’s Summits (2011 – 2018) as part of a massive global women’s initiative. Global Women’s Summits aim to educate women worldwide, and to engage in meaningful discussions about women’s issues, needs, and most importantly action oriented programmes – in every nation.

This will be the first Summit of its kind to be organised through the Women’s International Network in South Africa. Global Women’s Summits are already represented in fourteen (14) countries; the United States, Canada, Brazil, Netherlands, Malaysia, Great Britain, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, India, Sweden and Finland, amongst others.
